I got a very early morning reminder today about how far we go for the dogs we love.
It already was a restless night for reasons that had nothing to do with Darla Louise. Just when I worked through the strange dreams, I was awakened again by what seemed like the sound of her having an upset stomach.
I turned on the light. Didn't see any evidence of anything. She seemed fine. Out went the light and I tried to go back to sleep.
By about 4:04 am, it was clear those efforts were fruitless, so I got up to start the day. Walking back from the bathroom, I stepped in the evidence that my instincts had been right on. Yep. My sole had all the squishy evidence that my soul had been right on hours earlier. Yeah, gross.
I just did what all we dog moms do. Got the paper towels and Nature's Miracle cleaning solution to wipe up the donation from Darla's upset stomach.
Interesting way to start the day.
As un-fun as that was, I realize it's nothing compared to what the folks at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary are doing to save the lives and souls of some of Michael Vick's former pit bulls. Best Friends has taken in the most hardened cases, all with the goal of rehabbing them. Some might even be re-socialized enough to be adopted.
Sound incredible? That's what the folks at National Geographic Channel thought. They've been following this huge, some might think impossible, undertaking with a series called, "Dogtown." Season 2 begins Friday.
They've sent along a preview for us here at DarynKagan.com.
I've actually been lucky enough to see the entire 2-hour premiere. It's pretty incredible. Whatever you think about pit bulls, if you're simply a dog lover who thinks nothing of getting up in the middle of the night to clean up the remnants of your dog's upset tummy, you'll appreciate the lengths these incredible folks at Best Friends are going to help and love some dogs that definitely drew the short straw in their first go 'round with humans.
Meanwhile, I'm off to check on my own pup's upset tummy, this time, watching much more carefully where I step with my bare feet.
